22 Oct DIY Kids Snack Platters
Coming from an event planning background, food platters have a special plate in my heart. I have only one rule for food platters and that is that they look plentiful. Oh, and they have to look pretty. So I guess I have two rules.
When it comes to kids food or snack platters, the same is true. We’re finding ourselves in the midst of lots of after school playdates -at the park, at our house-and one thing is for sure-these kids are HUNGRY.
Providing a multitude of flavors (sweet, salty) , textures (crunchy, soft) and colors (red, white, orange) proves to be the magic bullet. Think hard boiled eggs, nuts, popcorn, and fruits and vegetables of all kinds. It’s always fruit, vegetables, nuts, dairy and protein. Let the kids choose what they’d like on their platter by giving them choices. For example “Do you want carrots or cucumbers on the platter?” or “Would you like cheese or edamame?” and “Peanuts or walnuts?” You get the gist. If the kids are old enough, let them assemble the platter themselves. It’s a fun activity, gives them ownership of their own healthy snack and builds kitchen confidence at the same time.
These items can be put on the plate and served as is or if you’re on the go, wrap up the plate as is or bag each item individually and assemble at your final destination. If you are headed out of the house, be sure to pack napkins and some kind of wet wipe. Be sure to pack a bit more if parents are attending your playdate-they are sure to take some nibbles.

To make this snack platter, you’ll need:
1. Cabot Creamery Alpine cheddar cheese, cubed
2. Applegate uncured genoa salami
3. Triscuits
6. baby carrots
Arrange items on the plate. Enjoy!
Since today is National Nut day, the folks at The Recipe ReDux decided to pay homage to the nut with our theme this month and in honor of this auspicious occasion I added two types of nuts to this particular platter. I always add a nut to my platters because truly, every day is nut day in our house–we don’t discriminate-except for Brazil nuts….but I digress.
