Product Review: KIND Healthy Grains

I’m generally not a fan of granola-or in this case “grain clusters”. No real reason, just not a fan. But when the nice folks at KIND sent me samples of their Peanut Butter Whole Grain Clusters and Maple Walnut Clusters with chia and quinoa, I realized what I’d been missing all these years.

Not only delicious (remember, it has to TASTE good first) but good for you ingredients and filled with ingredients and nutrients that can be tough to include in the daily diet. I can’t recall the last time I ate amaranth, quinoa, oats, millet and buckwheat in the same week much less the same bite!

These are my KIND of granolas-um, I mean grain clusters! (weak pun, I know)

Here’s the 411 on the Peanut Butter Whole Grain Clusters

Contain whole grains amaranth, quinoa, oats, millet and buckwheat (16 grams of whole grain)

Provide 5 grams of protein per serving (1/3 cup)

Ingredients : Whole grains (gluten free oats, brown rice, millet, buckwheat, amaranth, quinoa), evaporated cane juice, peanut butter, soy crisp (soy protein isolate, tapioca starch, calcium carbonate), peanuts, whey protein, canola oil, sea salt, Vitamin E (D-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate).   Additional nutrition information is here.

 

Here’s the 411 on the Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia and Quinoa

Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia & Quinoa are a heart healthy blend of walnuts, chia and whole grains amaranth, quinoa, oats, millet and buckwheat with a sweet touch of maple.

Contain 300mg of omega-3 fatty acids per serving (1/3 cup)

Provide 17g of whole grains per serving

Ingredients : Whole grains (gluten free oats, brown rice, gluten free oat flour, amaranth, millet, quinoa, buckwheat), evaporated cane juice, canola oil, chicory root fiber, walnuts, chia seeds, maple syrup, molasses, natural maple flavor, sea salt, Vitamin E (D-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate).     Good to know it tastes good! I dislike spending money on granola when I know if I just took the time to make it, it would taste betta 😉 and cost less. There is also nothing worse then buying it to find out you can’t stand it (GULP). So glad you tried and telled! I’m def.intrigued.

    what I bought was a stale bag of Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia and Quinoa despite the fact that it has an expiration date of Jan 2013. I was extremely disappointed, it was my first time trying this brand of granola. I will attempt to take it back to the store, even thought I don’t like doing this.

      Sorry to hear about your experience! I contacted the folks at KIND and alerted them to your situation. Based on your description, the team at KIND believes that these grains may have been subject to adverse storage or weather conditions. This could affect the quality, thus affecting the taste and texture of the product. In addition, their Quality and Sensory groups advise that heat and humidity can result in stale or rancid product.
      KIND would like reach out to you to obtain further packaging information, so that our Quality Assurance team can further investigate.     The wife is on a diet so that automatically means I’m on a diet as well. I cam across KIND Healthy Grain Peanut Butter Cluster and they taste amazing!! My concern is the amount of clories from fat per servings (35g). Are these “good fat” calories or should I lower my intake to stay on track with my diet?

      Hi-Thanks for your comment.
      The clusters contain a total of 3.5 grams of fat with 0 grams of trans fat and 0.5 grams of saturated fat. This is considered a
      small amount, however, it’s important to note that the serving size is 1/3 of a cup. If you’re eating more than 1/3 of a cup at a time, it’s easy for the saturated fat grams to add up quickly. My advice is to enjoy the product and keep the serving size to the recommended portion while incorporating a wide variety of healthy foods throughout the day. It’s always best to see a registered dietitian to help assess your personal dietary and health needs–www.eatright.org has a professional database that can help you locate a dietitian in your area.
