ITF: Where do you shop for food?
SG: I travel to see clients all over the metroplex so I enjoy stopping in to new-to-me farmer’s markets and local specialty stores, especially in Asian and Hispanic communities.
You can also catch me in Target, Central Market and Whole Foods.
ITF: Do you love food shopping or dread it?
SG: As long as I’m organized, and my list is in hand, I love it.
ITF: What is the single most important thing on your mind when you are shopping for food?
SG: Price. My favorite is the reduced bin at a local vegetable market.
ITF: How often do you shop?
SG: 3-4 times per week
ITF: How many do you shop for?
SG: Four – Two teenagers, my husband and
ITF: How many times a week do you eat out? (based on 21 meals/week)
SG: Two – One, every Saturday, my husband & I treat ourselves to an out-to-lunch date. The second one is a barbecue lunch out with our whole family.
ITF: What is the most coveted food in the fridge right now for each member of the household? Why?
SG: Pink Lady Apples – My daughter (my pickiest eater) only recently started liking them. Roasted brussels sprouts chips for my son. I keep them in a container to scoop out for his lunch.
ITF: Do you believe in leftovers?
SG: Absolutely. I’m into sustainable food.
ITF: What brands do you swear by? Why?
SG: Amy’s Organics – I haven’t tasted anything bad yet. Have you tried her frozen cheese enchiladas? You should. Add aging lettuce and diced tomato on top, you won’t be sorry.
ITF: What are your go-to food/nutrition/culinary/cooking website/s, book or cookbook?
SG: Right now it’s these websites – Food 52 , Dinner: A Love Story and Bon Appetit.
ITF: What was the last meal you cooked from scratch?
SG: Fish cakes – from Rebecca’s website – Chow & Chatter. What a great way to use up leftover mashed potatoes.
ITF: What words of wisdom or advice do you have for other folks who are doing their best every day to fill the fridge?
SG: Think outside what you normally cook. Ask your co-workers and neighbors what they prepare. Check out the James Beard award winners for the best of the best – in cookbooks
