Inside the Fridge: Roni Noone

Inside the Fridge Welcomes Bloggin’ maniac Roni Noone! Roni is a Web Publisher, Healthy Living Blogger and Social Media Fanatic! Where does all the inspiration come from? This marathon momma is a weight loss success story. Past, present and future, she tells it like it is, and her motivational posts are exactly what push inspired followers to go the extra mile, literally. She founded FitBloggin, a conference for health and wellness bloggers, created BlogToLose, an online weight loss community, and blogs regularly at Just Roni, GreenLiteBites, The UnWorldlyTravelers, and the quirky Poops Butterflies. Did we mention she was in the Army Reserves and went through basic training after highschool? That explains her go-getterness!

ITF: Where do you shop for food?

RN: Just a plain old regular grocery store. Sometimes I’ll hit up a Trader Joe’s but only 3-4 times a year. Most weeks I’m just hitting my local Weiss markets. I also belong to a CSA and get a few bags of fresh produce once a week during growing season.

ITF: Do you love food shopping or dread it?

RN: I enjoy it most days. When the kids are behaving and I can think.

ITF: What is the single most important thing on your mind when you are shopping for food?

RN: What am I missing from my pantry that I need to stock up on?

ITF: How often do you shop?

RN: Once a week, sometimes even every week and a half.

ITF: How many do you shop for? Ages?

RN: Myself, The Husband, the 7 year old and the 1 year old.

ITF: What is your weekly food budget?

RN: $100-$150

ITF: How many times a week do you eat out? (based on 21 meals/week)

RN: We TRY to limit it to 1 day a week but it’s normally 2.

ITF: How do you plan your weekly meals? Create a spreadsheet of fly by the seat of your pants?

RN: I’m a fly by the seat of my pants cooker. I like to call myself a pantry chef.

ITF: What is the most coveted food in the fridge right now for each member of the household? Why?

RN: Me-Fresh Strawberries, Husband-Frozen Mac&Cheese (YUCK!)

7 Year Old-Almond Milk for his Cereal, 1 Year Old-Cheese Sticks

ITF: What is the oldest item in the fridge right now?

RN: Probably my bottle of chocolate syrup on the door. I think it survived my move 3 years ago!

ITF: Do you believe in leftovers?

RN: YES! I love them but the family tends to disagree with me.

ITF: What convenience product can you not live without?

RN: I can’t think of any off hand. I try not to be dependent on anything. Oh! except Trader Joe’s whole wheat pizza dough. I try to keep a few in my freezer for quick homemade pizza nights.

ITF: What brands do you swear by? Why?

RN: I love The Laughing Cow and NEED portioned cheese or I tend to go a bit overboard. I also like Hormel Turkey Pepperoni, Almond Breeze unsweetened almond milk, and Mt. Olive Sugar Free Bread and Butter pickles.

ITF: What cooking utensil/piece of equipment/appliance do you live for?

RN: I use my Magic Bullet a few times a week, easily.

ITF: When you hear the word “homemade” what is the first thing that comes to mind?

RN: Spaghetti Sauce. I can’t and won’t buy jarred tomato sauce, ever!

ITF: What food/s are important when recalling food memories?

RN: Mom’s spaghetti, homemade christmas cookies and for some reason Rice-a-Roni

ITF: How have your cooking/shopping habits changed over the last 10 years?

RN: I’ve really shifted into less convenience and more produce over the year. I never used to be able to buy fruits and vegetables without them rotting in a drawer. Now they are gone by the end of the week.

ITF: What are your go-to food/nutrition/culinary/cooking website/s, book or cookbook?

RN: I love Everyday Food and the Food Network Mag for inspiration but most of the time I’m making up my own stuff for GreenLiteBites.

ITF: What was the last meal you cooked from scratch?

RN: Last night I made Spaghetti with Fresh Basil and Summer Squash!

ITF: What was the last meal you cooked from convenience products?

RN: Last week we had Fish Sticks. A family favorite.

ITF: If one person could cook for you tonight, who would it be?

RN: I’d love to have Wolfgang Puck cook for me. I ate at his restaurant a few times and was in heaven!

ITF: What words of wisdom or advice do you have for other folks who are doing their best every day to fill the fridge?

RN: Figure out what works for YOU. There is no right way to stock a fridge or make dinner. Your best bet is to come up with your own routine.

ITF: What are you working on these days that you’d like to tell us about?

RN: Right now I’m organizing the FitBloggin’ Conference so between cooking for my family and that, I don’t really have much time for anything else.

ITF: Anything else?

RN: Get the kids in the kitchen! 🙂

Thank you Roni!
