This is how this registered dietitian celebrates National Registered Dietitian Day!

The doorbell rang and, as usual, the dogs went crazy. This is normal. Usually, it’s UPS or FedEx, the mailman, the neighbor, or perhaps just another dog walking down the street.

Today was different though. When the doorbell rang, it was for me! JUST ME! A delivery from one of my favorite places-Edible Arrangements!  I was more than overjoyed as this just HAD to be a gift  in celebration of National Registered Dietitians Day!

I opened the box first (yes, I’m one of those-present first, card next) and saw a gorgeous selection of chocolate covered strawberries. Some had almonds, some had coconut flakes and others were coated in smooth white chocolate. I was already scoping out my first berry for consumption.

The card was a Thank You card of sorts. It was from my intern of almost a year, Laura (who blogs over at oddduckblog). She thanked me for all kinds of things that were very touching, but perhaps the most significant line in the card was this “I cannot wait until I can celebrate RD Day for myself!”.

To see, hear and sense the excitement that she feels to become a registered dietitian further solidifies my commitment to our profession and to help mentor students and young RDs.  That line was all the thanks I needed.

Happy Registered Dietitian Day! I’m off to eat my strawberries.
