03 Jun {Recipe} The All-American Smoothie
I was craving Neapolitan ice cream.
Why?
I was hot.
It’s already in the 90’s here in Texas and the humidity is not to be taken lightly. It’s already sweat-when-you-get-out-of-the-shower-not-to-mention-drying-your-hair-and-getting-dressed humid. I was literally fanning myself with an envelope today. Indoors.
The idea a cold, creamy beverage with a red/white/blue color palate just sounded…nice. There was no Neapolitan ice cream in sight and this was the closest and healthiest replacement I could whip up-it took less than 5 minutes. Chocolate milk, fruit and ice. That’s it! This balanced drink was filling and it gave me a huge boost of protein, vitamins, minerals, fiber and fluid. It. Hit. The. Spot.
I like my smoothies ICY, so I add a bit more ice than what’s called for in the recipe. No rules or judgement here-just do what you think is best.
All American Smoothie
1 banana, peeled (can use a frozen banana)
8 strawberries, washed and hulled (fresh or frozen)
handful of blueberries, washed (fresh or frozen)
1 cup ice
1 cup low fat chocolate milk
Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.
Makes approximately 4, 6-8 ounce servings
