Baby steps in food photography

If you follow this blog, you know that I am not a good photographer. However, with the somewhat subtle encouragement from my friend and colleague Regan Jones, I’ve taken a few stabs at it as of late. Confident that my phone could NOT take decent pictures, I now take food picture (or images, as they say) with my phone. I send them to Regan each time for her constructive criticism: “the foil is distracting. I prefer at least one edge of the plate or dish in photos. the lettuce does NOT look funny.” Appreciative of each and every comment, I learn from her wisdom and try to improve on the next series that I “shoot”.  Let’s just say that my photos, like me, are a work in progress.  I’m going to leave the photography lingo to the professionals…….

You are doing great. The fork picture looked edible and the salad pictures, I wanted to make it.

Looking at these pics is making me hungry. I’m pretty sure that’s a good sign:)

Great job! If you look at my blog, the early food pics were…not so good…I’ve been learning here and there and improving at a slow and steady rate 🙂 You will too!

Thanks, Alysa! Slow and steady work for me, too. Your photos with Chekera are beautiful!

I’m realizing more and more that lighting plays a HUGE role, and I live in a dark ground level apartment! Ah well, the food tastes good 😉

LOL! Yes, lighting is key, I’ve found. That and removing the flash when it’s not needed…..you know-it’s those little things!

These look great — especially from a phone! 🙂
