Where do you shop for food?


I regularly shop at Kroger, Harris Teeter, or Aldi for all my typical grocery needs. When I’m feeling adventurous or looking for something special I end up at Trader Joe’s or local ethnic market (I can always find such unique, inexpensive goods there!).

Do you love food shopping or dread it?


I’d say I’m somewhere in between 🙂 I love it in the sense that it feels good to be prepared with healthy choices for my coming week, but I can’t deny that it does take time and planning. Luckily, I rarely leave the house without some type of grocery list, which helps
keep me from wandering in & out of aisles and picking up unnecessary groceries.

What is the single most important thing on your mind when you are shopping for food?


The question that pops into my mind most as I’m contemplating buying a certain food is “Am I going to eat this?” It’s such a simple yet effective question that helps me hone in on my personal likes or dislikes AND better my meal planning because these choices are either purposeful or impulsive.

How often do you shop?

I shop for groceries weekly! It’s enough NOT to feel overwhelmed by the planning piece of grocery shopping and allows me to pick up on fresh produce regularly (which is a must!).

What is your weekly food budget? 


I focus only on sticking to grocery trips that are less than $40-50. This helps me prioritize what’s needed vs. what’s wanted and gives me some flexibility with eating out those few times each week.

How many times a week do you eat out? (based on 21 meals/week)


I likely eat out 3-4 times each week, typically on the weekends because I’m at home less. 

 Do you believe in leftovers?


I absolutely believe in leftovers! This is an essential factor in my meal plans for the week. It helps me be more efficient in the kitchen and with my time each day.

What convenience product can you not live without?

I can NOT live without frozen veggies. They help me easily complete a meal with just a touch of a few buttons on my microwave!

When you hear the word “homemade” what is the first thing that comes to mind?

The first thing that comes to mind is anything my mom makes – she tackles recipes fearlessly! And they always turn out delicious.

What food/s are important when recalling food memories?

My strongest food memories involve the Chinese dishes that have been enjoyed in my family for years. 

What are your go-to food/nutrition/culinary/cooking website/s, book or cookbook?


My go-to resource is Pinterest! — it has all my favorite recipe websites in one place.

What was the last meal you cooked from scratch?

The last meal I cooked from scratch was Cajun Chicken Pasta (sans the “homemade” pasta).

What words of wisdom or advice do you have for other folks who are doing their best every day to fill the fridge?


My advice would be to start small — don’t overhaul your fridge if that’s too overwhelming. Simply pick one area of improvement to make meals or snacks healthier for you.
