Where do you shop for food?

Trader Joes, Wholefoods, Melissa Danielle’s Wholesale Buying Club and Fairway Market

Do you love food shopping or dread it?

Both! I love it when there’s time to casually walk down the aisles to discover new ingredients. Lately, I dreaded it, because it takes too much time.

What is the single most important thing on your mind when you are shopping for food?

Keeping within the budget and buying all the ingredients needed for the following week, because its a waste of time to repeatedly go grocery shopping on the weekday.

How many do you shop for? Ages?

My boyfriend and I. We’re young, so we like to be humble by keeping our ages private.

What convenience product can you not live without?

Bread alone.

How do you plan your weekly meals? Create a spreadsheet of fly by the seat of your pants?

Four dinners per week are planned using a notepad app on my kindle along with the grocery list. I often end up eating just two, with the third meal going into the following week.

What cooking utensil/piece of equipment/appliance do you live for?

Dad’s iron black skillet he gave me when he dropped me off for in New York for graduate school.

When you hear the word “homemade” what is the first thing that comes to mind?

Delicious food that takes time and tons of dishes to wash.

How have your cooking/shopping habits changed over the last 10 years?

I went from being a single cook to cooking for a very hungry boyfriend.

What are your go-to food/nutrition/culinary/cooking website/s, book or cookbook?

How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman. It’s the foundation to build spices and add other ingredients to recipes.

What was the last meal you cooked from scratch?

Maple Cumin Bread.

What was the last meal you cooked from convenience products?

Rum Cranberry Apple Pie for the holiday office party. Saved time by buying the pie crust, but the filling is homemade.

If one person could cook for you tonight, who would it be?

Anyone? My Dad and someone to clean the kitchen and wash dishes afterwards.

What words of wisdom or advice do you have for other folks who are doing their best every day to fill the fridge?

Plan weekly or bi-weekly meals before going grocery shopping. It’s cheaper and lunches taste better than the fast food options.

Thanks Sanura!
